So what is Iowa City Connect?

Iowa City Connect (IC Connect) was an idea for a central location of local resources for school-age kids and their families that came from a CLP project in early 2023.

The CLP project team, which consisted of Tracy Jon Sargeant, Fred Newell, Brooke Noack, and Karina Miller, focused on identifying a solution for a problem that exists for families with kids in the Iowa City Community School District.

The Problem: There was no single place to find resources for parents or guardians to support the students in their families. With a growing immigrant and refugee community, the project team also wanted to create a site that was available in multiple languages.

Over the course of the 2023 CLP cohort, the project team spent hours tracking down existing sites and data sources for agencies, nonprofits, and support resources in Iowa City. Once the data had been collected, the process to validate the information began and the framework of a website was constructed.

The completed work resulted in the first centralized resource website available in English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin. The resource categories for the first version of the website include:

How to Use IC Connect

Using IC Connect is free and easy with a smartphone, tablet, or computer with an Internet connection. There are two ways to access the information on icconect.org.

Option 1: Click on a category to view the resources available

Option 2: Type a keyword, organization name, or phrase in the search box located at the top of every page. Click the search icon or press enter and then view the search results.

How to Support IC Connect

If you like the project and want to support the work there are several ways to help.

Make a donation to MDC Iowa and designate the use as "IC Connect"
Volunteer to update information on icconnect.org. This can include contacting agencies and organizations to validate their listing.
Fundraise to help fund the ongoing costs to sustain the website and the translation services that provide the most accurate language translations.
Use your voice - help promote the site by socializing with your network.
